DiamondBack Cover Review

Is a DiamondBack Cover Worth it?

The big question on everyone’s mind is if investing in a DiamondBack Cover is worth it. If you twist our arm, we’ll tell you the truth: It’s not the best heavy duty cover out there. Will it be “good enough” for you? Sure, probably! But there’s definitely something better out there. Read on to see a DiamondBack Cover Review.

DiamondBack Review

There is plenty to love about a DiamondBack Cover and reviewers are quick to celebrate these features — it’s American-made, has a rugged look, and feels really secure. Folks like knowing their truck bed cover is heavy duty and point to how they can stand on their DiamondBack Cover. The highest model the DiamondBack HD holds up to 1,600 pounds, so you’re pretty safe up there.

Some reviewers highlight the multiple access points, and others complain about them (particularly the static mid-section). Reading DiamondBack Reviews is also a helpful exercise if you’re trying to problem-solve a common issue, as users are quick to offer their jerry-rigged solutions. An exception to this is a solution for the lack of water-tightness in a DiamondBack Cover; based on the number of reviews that complain about this, it’s definitely something the company needs to address.

Heavy-Duty Truck Bed Cover

What if there were another heavy-duty truck bed cover out there, but you just haven’t heard about it? The last thing you want to do is invest in a DiamondBack, then realize it’s an industry leader because it has been around awhile, not because it’s the best cover on the market.

The Renegade Cover, for example, is also American-made and has a similar rugged look, but its features far outweigh those of DiamondBack. The question of security is never on the mind of a Renegade Cover user, as our extensive locking pins keep everyone and everything out. Plus, this cover can hold up to 2,000 pounds, which makes DiamondBack HD’s 1,600lb max seem like it may underperform.

One of the most important features of the Renegade Cover is its versatility. Unlike the DiamondBack Truck Bed Cover, this tonneau cover can be used like a flat bed (without any of those pesky decorative latches on top) and it folds up compactly if you need to tow a trailer or fill up your truck bed with something like rock or soil for a garden project.

DiamondBack Cover Alternative

The Renegade Cover is the best truck bed cover for contractors, but also adventurers. Is it too good to be true? We can understand why you might think so. But there’s also a reason we keep selling out. Our advice is to do your due diligence; read a DiamondBack Cover review or two, read Renegade Cover reviews, talk to people that have a DiamondBack Cover, a Renegade Cover, or another tonneau cover. This is an investment in the future life you’ve been dreaming about; take your time, and we’ll see you soon when you inevitably decide Renegade is the way to go.

Interested in a DiamondBack Cover?

If you’re in the market for a truck bed cover, you’ve likely considered the DiamondBack. With a quick rise to success, DiamondBack Covers is a multi-million dollar, Pennsylvania-based company that’s pretty impressive.

Benefits of a DiamondBack Cover

American-made products are the way to go. We are stoked that DiamondBack is as committed to it as we are here at Renegade Covers. Located on the East Coast, they have created a heavy-duty, weather-tight truck bed cover that works with various accessories.

DiamondBack Covers are designed for your specific truck model in mind, so there’s no guesswork about whether or not it will fit. DiamondBack also offers three finishes to their aluminum alloy covers: Rugged Black, Smooth Black, and Aluminum. Their models range between $1,799 and $2,399 and most hold 400lbs of weight on top.

Limits of a DiamondBack Cover

DiamondBack Covers feature permanent tie-down cleats which are less flexible and user-friendly than we like. The 2 and 3 panel designs also limit functionality. Perhaps most annoying of all, the deadbolt locks on top of the cover means you won’t be able to easily slide something on top of your cover. No treating it like a flatbed. This also means it’s not a keyless design.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it’s not possible to drive with this cover completely open. Which means it definitely won’t work for pulling your fifth wheel. While one DiamondBack model can hold up to 1,600lbs, this doesn’t give us the confidence that we would have with a stronger truck bed cover.

Another important consideration is that if you add racks to your DiamondBack Cover, you’ll have to drill into it to secure them. Better hope you like them there permanently!

Searching for a DiamondBack Alternative

DiamondBack Covers are a great innovation and example of the power of entrepreneurship and teamwork. But here at Renegade Covers, we want you to be so obsessed with your truck bed cover that you don’t want to think about what it was like before you had it.

DiamondBack Cover Alternative

If you’re looking for a high quality, heavy-duty truck bed cover made of military-grade aluminum, you’ll want to consider alternatives to DiamondBack, like Renegade Covers, obviously.

Diamond Plated Truck Bed Cover

If a diamond is a girl’s best friend, is a diamond plate truck bed cover a man’s best friend? Let’s consider the benefits and tradeoffs of a diamond plated truck bed cover.

Post-Punk Power

Do you ever wonder why Talking Heads chose a diamond plate pattern for their 1979 album “Fear of Music”? Characterized by maximum velocity, this album has a steady beat that reflects the alternating bumpy and smooth cover.

As a design, the diamond plate feels tough. However, it’s important to note, there aren’t any actual diamonds in a diamond plated truck bed cover, just a diamond pattern. This might also be called a checker plate or tread plate, which is definitely less sexy.

A diamond plate pattern is generally intended to provide traction underfoot — which is why it’s found in industrial environments, particularly stairs and ramps. As useful as it can be for a nonskid or nonslip surface, it may also simply be a decorative touch.

Diamond Plated Truck Bed Cover

A diamond plate is typically manufactured in plastic or metal. In the case of a truck bed cover, let’s hope it’s aluminum. As David Byrne sings in “Life During Wartime,” “This ain’t no party / This ain’t no disco / This ain’t no fooling around / No time for dancing, or lovey dovey.”

When it comes to diamond plate truck bed covers, DiamondBack is definitely what comes to mind. With a rugged look, DiamondBack models include locks and hinges on top of the cover, and might even include cleats.

Unfortunately this exterior attached functionality keeps you from being able to utilize your cover as a flatbed. This might not seem like a big deal…until you want to smoothly slide an item onto your tonneau cover (like a sheet of plywood) or when you drop a pallet on it and it doesn’t sit flush on top. These are issues you won’t run into with your Renegade Cover’s smooth surface.

Also, before you invest in a DiamondBack, it’s important to consider their load-bearing capacity. You may be surprised to know that, while the HD Tonneau Cover can hold 1,600 pounds, DiamondBack’s other covers can only bear 400 distributed pounds.

Alternatives to DiamondBack

“Hold on, because it’s been taken care of” is another Talking Heads lyric, and it’s music to your ears when you’re exhausted by the search for the best truck bed cover.

Though DiamondBack is the industry standard for weight-bearing tonneau covers, it is not the leader. Rather, Renegade’s Tonneau Cover hauls up to 2,000 pounds on top! This not only removes any doubt you had about your cover’s strength, but opens the door to a variety of additional activities and uses.

Turning to DiamondBackSE, Diamondback270, and Diamondback180, for those truck owners ok with a low weight-bearing capacity, you’ll find a slight variation in access panels, but none provide full access to the entire truck bed. You only get this with Renegade’s tri-fold design.

Additionally, when you’re installing or removing your new cover, if it’s a Renegade, you won’t need any tools. Relatedly, don’t forget the DiamondBack design is higher profile than Renegade’s. It also has less locking pins, making it less secure than the Renegade Cover.

Join the Renegade Revolution

As Byrne sings, “High on a hillside, the trucks are loading / Everything’s ready to roll.” While we could go on and on about the differences between DiamondBack and Renegade, we’d rather leave you to plan your next great adventure. Order your Renegade Cover today! After all, “Memories can’t wait.”
