American Made Truck Bed Cover
The history of our American made truck bed cover begins with Advanced Metal Products, a one-man operation that started in the 1980’s and focused on Babbitt Bearings. In 1995, Jeff Leavitt sold AMP to Scott Packer, who provided the company with another expertise. Designing ultra-high pressure systems for manufacturing synthetic diamonds.
Metal Technology Discovered
In 1999, AMP began working with Brigham Young University to develop a solid state joining technology (also known as friction stir welding) which would allow steels and exotic high temperature materials to be joined together.
The success of this technology led to further development alongside the US government and various aerospace, oil and gas, nuclear, and automotive companies. A resulting joint venture company with Schlumberger proliferated this tech in the oil and gas sector, eventually selling it to Mazak in 2019.
Pivoting to Truck Products and Covers
Advanced Metal Products developed a wide range of products, processes, and capabilities alongside expertise across many industries. Along the way, we discovered the freedom and opportunity to dedicate ourselves to our highest passion; truck products.
So, in 2013, we took our experience working with folks at Boeing, NASA, Office of Naval Research, Oakridge National Labs, Sandia National Labs, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Exxon, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, and Honda, and began to develop a truck bed cover that was like no other.
Over the next 7 years, we developed and produced the Renegade Cover that you know and love today. This cover doesn’t just meet the highest of standards of durability and security. Thanks to the best technologies and materials out there, it is truly functional and appealing to everyone. Part of reaching this goal was equipping the cover to function as a platform. This would enable customers to attach custom accessories to meet their unique needs.
In addition, it was important to us to complete extensive stress analysis, as well as mechanical and corrosion testing. This ensures the longterm quality of this incredible truck bed cover.
American Made Truck Bed Cover
Early on, we realized off-the-shelf materials weren’t going to provide the strength and appearance the Renegade Cover deserved. Rather, our design would require custom shapes and extrusions of every component. With the exception of the tread plate that is used for the top surface. Thus, every cover is made from custom components that we machine. We’ve spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on dies and tooling alongside partner vendors.
While we won’t back down on quality control, sometimes we do have to be patient as a single supplier can hit a roadblock in their own supply chain. It’s worth it, though, to produce this truck bed cover entirely in the USA, using only minimal hardware from off-shore.
