Frequently Asked Questions

We use a set of rollers that attach to the bottom of the tray located at the back of the tray and a set of rollers mounted to the rear of the truck bed.  This allows the tray to roll directly on the truck bed.

Wood trays are typically made of a waterproof resin that adheres wood particles together.  The wood is not covered completely with the resin (for example if the wood is cut or drilled during the manufacturing process) and the exposed wood absorbs humidity or water over time.  The wood particles can then expand and distort the tray and make the tray prone to chipping at those locations.  It is important to have high strength and high stiffness.  Wood has a tensile strength of 5000 psi and a stiffness of 1,000,000 psi.

Plastic is waterproof and is usually made with Ultraviolet Inhibitors to prevent sun damage.  These are excellent properties which makes it exceptional for outdoor use.  Unfortunately, all plastics are subject to creep.  This means that when it is subject to higher loads it deforms and changes shape.  Creep is accelerated with high temperatures.  Creep typically is minimized by using thicker sections and steel support elements.  This increases the weight of the trays or drawers and reduces the truck payload.  The most common plastics for these applications have a tensile strength around 7000 psi and stiffness .02 psi.

Even though aluminum is a more expensive material, we use it for its strength, stiffness, resistance to corrosion, and its light weight.  The strength of the 5000 series aluminum we use is 46,000 psi and the stiffness is 10,200,000 psi. The tray design requires that we use a steel stiffener on each side of the tray to maintain the strength and stiffness of the tray since there is no support between the front and back of the tray.  The steel rail that we use has a strength of 60,000 psi and a stiffness of 30,000,000 psi.  These materials allow for a strong, light weight product that is designed for a long service life.

Not yet.  If we have enough people asking for them, we will offer them.

This makes it easy to slide plywood, sheet rock or anything else onto the trays so they don’t get hung up on the handles.

Use them when you will have heavy or unbalanced weights in the trays.

No, the bearings are sealed and lubricated with marine grease and all of the other components are designed for continuous water exposure.

Yes, we have a wire rope installed on the inside of the tray and bungee cords are used to secure anything inside of the tray.

Yes, it is always better to distribute the load if possible.

The longest tray we make weighs about 50 pounds.

Take your time and it will take about an hour for one tray.

Yes, the trays are designed for Milwaukee trays to fit crosswise in each tray…about 2 feet.  Other carry out systems will work as well.

There is a spring plunger attached to the front bearing assembly with a knob.  The knob is pulled outward and rotated 90 degrees to lock the knob in the open or out position.  Continue to rotate the knob and it will go back to the locking position.

We carry inventory, however if our inventory sells out the lead time will be 8 weeks.

No, each tray has weep holes for drainage.

We do not make one that is 8 feet long, it is the same one we use for the 6 ft 8 bed.  The cost of materials and shipping is significantly higher because we have to start with larger material size and the shipping size requires extra cost.

Yes, we offer specialty tools for the rivnuts.

When you load the tray, it’s much easier to lift and load heavy items into a tray that’s at the same height as the tailgate rather than trying to lift up and over a lip on a tray.

Specialty tools used to install the Rivnuts are included—Punch, drill, and Rivnut tool to set the rivnuts.

The width of the each tray is designed to hold the Milwaukee packout boxes in the truck bed.

Trays for the Gadiator, Tacoma, Canyon, and Colorado are coming soon.

If you are looking for a high quality bed cover look no further. I spent months researching for the best bed cover for my Tundra build. The craftsmanship is on point. The materials used are second to none. Solid 100%… The customer service is first class from the time I order it to the install. The Renegade Cover Team were there for me and even called to check up on me after the install. Please take it from me… your done looking, this is the one to get.

I love my cover! It’s tough, looks good and very functional. It’s almost to good to be true that with my cover I have a good looking truck where I can keep things safe underneath the cover and have a flat bed when I need it on top of the cover. Love it. Jared

This is by far the best and most heavy duty truck bed cover available in the market today. I have 35 trucks and I can tell you that there is no other solution for me and my business. We carry concrete saws, heavy equipment, loads of cement as well as rock on top. We travel thousands of miles for each trip and without our renegade top we wouldn’t be able to do the job that we do. We support local business and this company is one to look at. It’s not a cheap option but if you’re looking for solid, waterproof, sturdy, fitment, then Renegade is the ONLY voice for me! Strong and secure. Renegade gets it done!

Excellent truck bed cover. As others have said there is a decent wait time for the cover to be built and sent out. I had great communication with the company. Kayla would email about every two weeks with an update and the stage that the cover was in. I did however have an issue once I did receive mine due to an accidental packing of the same side mount. I emailed them that weekend and they next day shipped both of the correct brackets. They apologized for it and can tell they care about all their customers. The cover seals very well minimal rain gets in. I have yet to test the weight capacity but I will only be mounting a rooftop tent and paddle boards in the future.

Having loaded everything from 4-wheelers, pallets, and tool boxes, my favorite feature is the multiple tie down locations. They allow me to secure a load from any angle. Also, this cover is truly water resistant. I haven’t had any problems with water leaking in the bed of my truck.

Okay, so it took about 6 1/2 months to receive the cover from the time of purchase. Crazy long time for a tonneau cover, especially when they’re competitor has a 1 month turn around. There was also a SERIOUS lack of communication so I feel that the company has a lot to fix on their end with that. Now that that part is over, on to the cover review… It took me about an hour n a half to install and make final adjustments. The instructions weren’t all that great but they told me they were in the middle of rewriting them. Honestly though there really isn’t too much to the install. It takes longer to tune all the pins so they all hit the lock rail just right then it does to mount everything. Highly recommend having two people lift the cover into place. It took everything I had to lift it up into my truck bed and then place it up on the rail without putting it through my back glass. Now that its finally on my truck, I can say it is VERY high quality built and I can see this holding up for MANY years to come hauling quads and golf carts on top of it. The locking rails are heavy duty.
